나의 독서 습관 중의 하나는 연말이 되면 늘 출간하는 추리소설가들의 신간을 읽으며 한 해를 마무리 하는 것인데 작년에는 정신이 없어서 그들의 신간을 읽을 정신적 여유가 없었다. 아마존에 들어가 보니 나의 단골 소설가인 마이클 코넬리와 데이비드 발다치의 신간이 나와 있었다. 이 소설은 데이비드 발다치의 신간으로 Puller 시리즈의 세번째 책이다. 군수사관인 풀러는 그간 두 권의 소설에서 치매를 앓고 있는 장군출신의 아버지와 반역죄로 복역하고 있는 공군 출신의 형을 두었다고 알려져 있었다. 이번 책에서는 감옥에 있던 형이 감쪽같이 감옥에서 탈출하고 풀러가 형의 행방을 쫓는 이야기이다. 형의 행방을 쫓는 동시에형이 어떻게 감옥을 탈출하였는지도 밝혀내며 마지막에는 형이 처움부터 누명을 써서 감옥에 갔다는 것을 밝혀 낸다. 즉 함께 근무하던 러시아 스파이인 레이놀즈가 형을제거하기 위해 누명을 씌였던 것이다. 여러 알파벳 약자로 이루어진 정보 기관들이 등장하고 주로 홀로 수사하던 풀러에게 감시자이며 조력자가 등장해서 공조 수사를 하기도 한다. 그럭저럭 재미있다. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Escape_(Baldacci_novel) John Puller 시리즈 1 Zero Day 2011 2 The Forgotten 2012 3 The Escape 2014
